Class Expectations
To help ensure your child’s success in fourth grade, we will begin the year by focusing on positive behavior. We will spend a great deal of time going over the rules and procedures so your child will know what is expected of them at all times. The expectations listed below are posted in our classrooms and will be our guide for behavior standards throughout the school year. Each rule relates directly to one or more of the school wide SAIL (Safe Accountable Independent Leaders) positive behavior expectations.
RULES
1. Listen and follow directions.
2. Raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat.
3. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
4. Respect your classmates and your teachers.
CONSEQUENCES
1. First time a rule is broken, a warning is given.
2. Second time a rule is broken, a time out will be given.
3. Third time a rule is broken, a letter will be sent home.
Instead of a traditional rewards system where students work towards earning rewards for expected behaviors, we will focus on making positive choices to better ourselves, our work habits, and our relationships and then celebrate them! Twice a month, we will celebrate students' success in the area of work habits and displaying an 'other people matter' mindset/behaviors. All students will have the opportunity to share some of their successes with others in the class. They will record some of their successes throughout the week so they can remember them. Then, all students will participate in a fun planned activity to celebrate our positive choices. It may be a game, activity, craft, etc. With our celebration system, positive choices do not become work, in which students are working towards being rewarded for what is expected of them. We are celebrating their success and encouraging others at the same time.
We SAIL @ WES
Weatherstone Explorers SAIL both inside the classroom and as they move about campus. The goal is to get caught SAILing. So what does it mean to SAIL?
S – Safe
A – Accountable
I – Independent
L – Leaders
Safe- Weatherstone Explorers are SAILing when they behave in ways which keep themselves and others safe. Keeping hands and feet to self, picking up objects on the ground or floor, holding doors for others, not throwing inappropriate objects.
Accountable- Weatherstone Explorers are SAILing when they are accountable for their actions and for their learning. They accept responsibility for homework, coming to school prepared, respecting school rules, treating others kindly and acknowledging their mistakes.
Independent- Weatherstone Explorers are SAILing when they act independently. They follow directions the first time told, make good choices, complete work on time, and honor timelines for projects, homework and classwork.
Leader- Weatherstone Explorers are SAILing when they set the example for others. They show the ability to be a leader and not a follower.
SCHOOL COMMUNITY
Within the school community our class earns SAIL tickets from other teachers when walking in the halls, during specials and in the cafeteria. These SAIL tickets help students earn rewards for the class. Class rewards are earned with every 25 sails earned. For example at 25 SAILs the class will receive 10 minutes extra recess. The rewards get bigger as more sails are earned.
